Day Trip to the Lake District – ‘Cruise, Poetry and Grasmere Gingerbread’
Includes a cruise on Lake Windermere and visits to Dove Cottage, Wordsworth Museum and Gingerbread Shop
Enjoy a day trip to the Lake District National Park. With its spectacular scenery and connections with the poet William Wordsworth, ‘Lakeland’, as the locals are more likely to call it, is the UK’s most popular national park.
Each year, around 16 million people head to this picturesque corner of north west England to explore the hills and lakes, and to relax aboard one of the many boats that ply the waters of Windermere, Ullswater and Coniston.
The reputation of ‘The Lakes’, with its stunning vistas of mountain tops and glistening lakes, was confirmed in the 19th century with the arrival of poets – William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and authors – Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransome.
Today, the influences of Wordsworth and Potter can be seen in Bowness and Grasmere. Elsewhere in Lakeland, just waiting to be discovered, are steam railways, imposing castles, and even more impressive scenery.
If you’ve not been to the Lake District before, our two tours (and look out for ‘Rails, Sails and Tails’) will give you a taste of just how magnificent the area is. Whichever tour you choose, the Lake District offers a great day out and a truly memorable experience.
