Day Trip to the World of Wedgwood Pottery
Includes the museum, factory tour, afternoon tea and a choice of designing a plate or throwing a pot
Enjoy a day trip to the World of Wedgwood Pottery. Wedgwood china is known internationally for it’s quality, beauty and craftsmanship.
Here’s an opportunity to visit this remarkable visitor attraction located in the ‘Potteries’, the UK’s centre of ceramic production dating from the 17th century.
At the heart of the visit is the Factory Tour. While much of the process is automated, there are plenty of opportunities to see the highly skilled workforce hand-painting cups, vases and plates. Part of the tour takes you along purpose-built galleries set above the different areas of the factory. Your tour then leads you down to the ‘shop floor’ where you can peer over the shoulders of the figure makers and artists at work at their benches. Note that at weekends the level of activity inside the factory is significantly reduced.
At the end of the tour there’s an opportunity to ‘throw’ your own pot, have it fired and posted on to you as a unique souvenir of your Wedgwood experience. You can also design your own plate (for a small additional fee) in the modern Design Studio.
For many visitors, while the factory tour gives an opportunity to admire the skills of the artists, it’s the unique history of the Wedgwood name that stands out. The historic Wedgwood Collection is now the property of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. It has been loaned to the newly expanded museum in perpetuity. Some 3,000 of the 80,000 artefacts are on display in an exhibition that takes visitors through a timeline from the pottery’s creation by Josiah Wedgwood more than 250 years ago to the first works by Vera Wang, one of today’s star designers. State-of-the-art technology and some first class graphics and signage make this a fascinating and memorable part of your day out.
And to round off your visit? We include a Luxury Afternoon Tea in the Wedgwood Tea Room.
