Private Walking Tour in Manchester

Discover the history of Manchester on your own private walking tour

An official guide will show you around Manchester city centre on a private walking tour, talking you through the history, architecture and culture of the city. As the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, Manchester was the world’s first modern city, and has led the world in several fields from cotton to computers. Discover the stories and landmarks central to Manchester’s vibrant social, cultural and political history on this introductory tour of the city.

All walking tours can be customised to suit your interests and needs, but here are two of our most popular tours:

Discover Manchester Walking Tour (2 or 3 hours)

Your own private guide will take you on a walking tour of all the highlights of Manchester, such as the Town Hall, John Rylands Library, the Royal Exchange Theatre and the Cathedral. The tour content, route and pace are entirely flexible. If you have a particular interest, just let us know and we can adapt the tour to suit you.

Three hour tours cover the same content as the two hour tours but at a more leisurely pace and in more detail. They can also include a short refreshment stop (not included in the price).

Manchester Music Walking Tour (2 or 3 hours)

Hear how Manchester’s unique sound shaped the world’s music scene as you walk though the city. See legendary music studios, clubs and venues including the Free Trade Hall, Palace Theatre, Factory Records HQ, Ritz Ballroom, Hacienda, the Boardwalk and the Congregational Chapel. Listen to stories of local bands including the Hollies, Joy Division, New Order, Buzzcocks, The Smiths and Oasis. Listen to stories of local bands who visited including the Beatles, Sex Pistols and Bob Dylan’s famous ‘Judas’ performance.
